Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need by entrepreneurial action.
Enactus in Hong Kong
Founded in 2005, Enactus Hong Kong started as a purely student-led organization and established chapters in 6 different local universities.
With the support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Hong Kong office is launched in 2019 to facilitate the expanding operation.
Jockey Club Youth Social Innovation Action
An initiative by Enactus Hong Kong, the Jockey Club Youth Social Innovation Action program is a two-year program that nurtures the next generation of local social entrepreneurs. It takes participants from tertiary institutions on a challenging journey of learning, exploring and caring. With the generous support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the program offers a variety of opportunities to Enactus members:
Regular training events are held to equip Enactus members with the skills to start their own social innovation projects. Topics range from project ideation to presentation skills to design thinking.
At least one team from each Enactus partner institution present their projects to a panel of judges. The top two institutions will represent Hong Kong to compete with champions from other regions of China in the National Competition in Shanghai.
A seed funding is allocated to selected teams for trial, experimentation and project development. Further funding is awarded to the top three teams of the Regional Competition for project implementation and ongoing development.
This program engages corporate volunteers in social innovation projects initiated by Enactus members. Advisors contribute their business acumen to help students improve their projects by giving them feedback and suggestions.
Workplace volunteers are recruited to provide advice on career direction and life goals to tertiary students. Mentors contribute their life experience as well as work experience to help students better prepare for the workplace and plan for the future.
Selected Enactus members are sponsored to take part in the national training in Shanghai during the summer holiday, and to join as observers at the Enactus World Cup which is held in a different country each September.
By setting up meditation booths with Virtual Reality meditation guide, background music and essential oil, MentalBooth is building a stress-relief platform for citizens to release pressure. So far they have installed prototypes at HKUST, a co-working space and a shopping mall.
WeCareBill started a platform that provides much needed information about medical services and treatment fees to newly-diagnosed patients and the general public. Currently such information is scattered and scarce, making it difficult for patients to make informed decision about their health. WeCareBill engages patients and medical professionals on an anonymous basis to change the status quo, and offers a hotline staffed by volunteers to answer patients’ enquiries.
